Commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel Named as FCC Acting Chairwoman
Acting FCC Chair Jessica Rosenworcel recently indicated she hopes to set up the $7 billion subsidy program aimed at helping students get internet connections at home. Congress slated this money for the FCC as part of the pandemic relief package that President Joe Biden signed into law.
The FCC is still developing the program for distributing the subsidies, which could help put Wi-Fi hotspots and modems in the hands of students stuck at home. Rosenworcel said the agency is collecting public feedback and commented, “It’s my hope then by mid-May we will have policies voted on by my colleagues and in place to get this Homework Gap program up and running.”
